April 2nd is a very important national holiday in Argentina because it commemorates the Veterans Day and the ones who died in Malvinas War (Falklands War). On April 2nd of 1982 the Armed Forces of Argentina landed on the islands with one goal, recover Malvinas.

Malvinas and South Atlantic Islands Museum was built in 2014. The museum gives information about the war between Argentina and Great Britian, but also about the geographical data of the South Atlantic Ocean. It was inaugurated June 10th 2014 in the Memory and Human Rights Space, where the Mechanical School of the Army used to be.

It is a modern museum. It has audiovisual projections, audio cones with particular information and touch screens with interactive information. Workshops and cultural activities are offered too.

The museum is divided in 3 sections. The first one, ground floor and part of the first floor, is the Atlantic Experience. Here you will find historical information about the South Atlantic Ocean, from its discovery, through the explorations, to the claims of sovereignty by Argentina in the last years. A 360° projection immerses visitors into geography, and with real images and sounds, transport them to a journey thorugh the islands.

In the second half of the first floor the Malvinas Experience begins. The Islands history is developed from colonial times, throught the british occupation, during the conflict and subsequent diplomatic struggles.

Finally, the War and Postwar Experience is developed in the second floor, with real objects related to the war, such as uniforms, weapons, items and journals.

Also, for the kids there is a Library with more than 90 books that detail the geography of the South Atlantic Ocean, Antarctica and Patagonia; exploration trips and the relationship between man and sea.
